SAMUEL JAMES WOODS
AGE: 88 LAKEWOOD
Samuel Woods, 88, of Lakewood, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Samuel was born in Northern Ireland July 8, 1921, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 15. Samuel lived most of his life in Laurence Harbor (Old Bridge Twp) and most recently moved to Victoria House Assisted Living, located in Matawan, NJ.
 
Samuel was inducted into the U.S. Army in February 1943. He served in Germany as a Mess Sgt. with the 160th General Hospital.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, NJ in January 1946. In 1983, Samuel retired from Delco Remy, a Division of General Motors Corp, New Brunswick, NJ after 28 years of service. Samuel was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyport and volunteered at the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 211, Sayreville, NJ.

Samuel was predeceased by his parents, George and Rebecca Woods; both wives, Martha and Dorothy; and two sisters, Jenny Fitzhenry and Edna Dzurina. He is survived by two stepsons: Sanford R. Hardy of Rustburg, VA and Thomas Hardy and his wife Kathleen of Lakewood; two sisters: Maggie Kotora, Jersey City and Elizabeth Lazar and her husband George of Hamilton Square, NJ and a large family of many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step grandchildren.
A viewing will take place at the Bedle Funeral Home, 61 Broad Street, Keyport, NJ on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens in Hazlet. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Samuel's name to the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry, P.O. Box 35, Keyport, NJ 07735 or the Calvary United Methodist Church, 41 Osborn St., Keyport, NJ 07735.
