Summer Volunteers – provided great assistance to our organization. We were fortunate again this year to have several school aged volunteers help us with the pantry operation and monthly Foodbank deliveries. They volunteered because they wanted to make a difference. They were able to see for themselves how many families are struggling everyday to make ends meet. All of them worked hard and demonstrated a great sense of Respect, Dedication, and Responsibility. We would like to say “Thank You” to their parents for allowing them to volunteer at our organization and for raising such fine children. We truly enjoyed having them and hope to see them again next year.
From all of us at the KMFP – Have a Great School Year!
The number of people seeking assistance continues to rise -We have people coming to us that never thought they would ever have to come to a food pantry. They walk in with tears in their eyes and in a small whisper say – “I have never had to do this before but have no choice’. Some of these people have become unemployed due to job cutbacks, for some, their unemployment benefits have run out and don’t know if they will be eligible for an extension, some have exhausted whatever savings they might have had and the list goes on and on.
Our Registrar, Maria Connors, speaks to them and reassures them that they are not the only ones coming through our doors in this type of situation. She advises them to apply for Food Stamps, if a U.S. Veteran to call the contact we have to see if they are able to receive any benefits and if they need any other specific assistance (Health benefits, prescriptions, utilities, housing, rental assistance, etc.) to call 211.
As you can see we do our best to assist all that come through our doors the best we can by providing them with food and referrals. Our food and monetary donations toward food purchase are at a high time low. We understand that many are struggling to keep up with their own personal situations but if you are able to help us we would truly appreciate it. A box of cereal, a can of tuna and a box of pasta can provide a breakfast, lunch and dinner for someone.
If you have a hectic schedule you are welcomed to send us a monetary donation toward the purchase of food. We are truly grateful to all that continue to support us the best they can. New to our organization? Take a look at our How You Can Help section or for additional information on food or monetary (for food) donations contact Associate Director Marge Conway during our hours of operation.
Remember – ‘No donation is ever too small and all are deeply appreciated’.
